Niroman Presented at 2025 ODOT Bridge & GEEGH Design Training

April 2025 — Salem, Oregon

Saeed Javidi, Principal and Senior Structural Engineer at Niroman, presented at the 2025 ODOT Bridge & GEEGH Design Training Conference. His presentation, titled:

“Seismic Design and Retrofit of Three Bridges: Seismic Vulnerabilities, Challenges, and Solutions,”

highlighted innovative engineering approaches to seismic design and retrofitting of three bridges in high-risk seismic regions.

Drawing from real-world experience, Saeed shared case studies from three major bridge projects: the Fraser Heights Bridge, Cypress Creek Bridge, and Granville Bridge. These projects involved complex site constraints and significant seismic vulnerability, and required advanced analysis and design strategies, including:

  • Non-linear time-history and pushover analysis
  • Base isolation systems
  • Link slab retrofitting
  • Top-down/ABC construction system

Each case study demonstrated how site-specific challenges were addressed using performance-based design, strategic detailing, and innovative retrofitting techniques to enhance infrastructure resilience.

Saeed was the structural engineer for these bridges during his tenure at Associated Engineering.

With over 20 years of consulting experience and more than 26 seismic retrofit projects completed, Saeed lead Niroman in delivering high-quality, forward-thinking structural solutions.
